Martin Luther

LAST ASSIGNMENT

1. Important Parts of Martin Luther's life

*Martin Luther was the first person to translate the Bible into the official German language

This was important because without him we would not have everything we have today.  The people's life's that he changed when he did that might not have happened if it were not for him.  He touched their life's and therefore indirectly effected my life!

*Martin Luther also wrote many books

He wrote many books that helped people understand the meaning and the message of the Bible.  Although sometimes his emotions overtook him, they were still good.

2. My own thoughts of him(http://www.religionfacts.com/christianity/people/luther.htm) (http://www.greatsite.com/timeline-english-bible-history/martin-luther.html)

I think he is a good part in history, i can't imagine what our world would be like without him.  Our would is still so corrupt and we still fall away from the original teachings of the church so what he was trying to do when he was reforming the church was a great thing because the people were doing it wrong thinking that you have/had to pay to get our of hell and purgatory.  God gave us the free give of salvation and the people who were wanting to pay were not right, and the people that were accepting the money were wrong in their actions also.

Martin Luther was born in 1483 into a strict German Catholic family. His family wanted him to be lawyer and intended him to be one, but God had different plans for his life.  He became monk instead and also a theology professor.  He had a fear of God and hell until he realized the doctrine of “justification of faith” while reading Romans.  He wasn't about to sit back and let this happen he wanted to do something about it.  Luther unwillingly sparked religious and political reform in Germany and founded the Lutheran branch of Protestantism. He also had a strong personality, on Halloween of 1517 Luther changed the course of human history.  He nailed 95 Theses to the church door at Wittenberg.   He accused the Roman Catholic church of heresy.  Many people cite this act as the primary starting point of the Protestant Reformation.  In 1534 Martin Luther translated the entire Old Testament into the German Language.

Martin Luther escaped martyrdom and died because of old age.  His last written words were “Know that no one can have indulged in the Holy Writers sufficiently, unless he has governed churches for a hundred years with the prophets, such as Elijah and Elisha, John the Baptist, Christ and the apostles… We are beggars:  this is true.”

Don't Waste You Life: Chapters 6 & 7

I think TV is a huge life waster.. and i don't think the problem is that it is there.. i think the producers are just producing some on the wrong things, the things that will make people sin.. and the things that are bad for you.. and I also think that it could be a huge waste of time if you do not manage it or limit your access to it.. it could and does for some people take away time that you could be doing other things (reading the Bible, praying, studying the Word) The ways that it effects me is 1) takes away my time 2) puts garbage that doesn't need to be in my head in my head 3)  causes me to stumble... and also if you look at the time i spend reading the Bible and Praying with the time i spend watching TV the time is not the right amount..

Also another thing we talked about in this chapter is money.. God tells us A LOT of places in the Bible that we need to give up what we have and give it to the poor and help those who are less fortunate.. as a age that i am right now i don't really get paid for a job so what i need to be doing now is seeking the kingdom of God (Matt. 6:33) and i need to be preparing my heart for when i become an adult and i need to set my priorities strait so when i do become an adult i will know what to do!

That is it!:)

Assignment #11

"Jesus Camp"

When Mr. Mendenhall told us we were going to be watching "Jesus Camp".. I didn't know what to expect, at first i thought it was going to be a movie that dealt with Africa or a movie about deprived children.. then it started and i realized that I didn't agree with some of the things the women(Becky Fischer) and young children was saying... it all started to sound a bit abnormal.. haha

"Jesus Camp" is a documentary following two/three young kids.. They go to this camp in Missouri and it is like a Church Camp..  Becky Fischer is the head of this camp

This is movie is wrong in some way but right in other.. For example, the young girl who is at the bowling alley and walks up to the women and tells the women that God was leading her to come and see her.. that amazes me because at such a young age she is SO extremely bold in her faith and that's what the Bible tells us to do is to go go and to spread the word of God so i like the motives but there is just something wrong sometimes with the way they young kids in this movie go about things..

Also speaking in tongues,  I have not grown up with this.. but i believe that they take "Speaking in tongues out of context".. because what the Bible said about that and how they did it and presented it was Wrong

And the whole George Bush thing was Crazyy! well at least i think so :) haha

Anyway, i know when they filmed the movie they kinda just took the worst parts and made the movie and i am sure there was some stuff that was okay but i still disagree with some of their ways, but we all have stuff to fix in our life so its just something we will have to work on haha

Dont Waste Your LIfe

Chapter 3(DWYL)

1.  Boasting only in the cross happens when you are ON the cross, it means you are proud of your faith and you are excited to spead the word of God and this can only happen when you give up yourself and  put yourself ON the cross.

2.  the first "I" meaning my old self "I have been crucified in Christ".. My old self is gone and my old ways are so long with me.  The second "I" meaning God, when you become a Chrsitian, Jesus comes into your life and he is living through you.. so he is living through me.. haha confusing

3.  The area in my life that i am living by faith is, i know God is always there for me and will always protect me.. but i need to learn to put in HIS hands allll of the other things in my life.. like my activities i do outside of school

Assignment 9

"Altar Call"

The altar call is normally what happens at the end of a service, the speaker says like if you want to devote you life to Christ make you way to the front.. Its like a way for them to get to know you and for you to recieve prayer and such. hmm well i have sorta grown up with that? I got to Emmaunuel and I have been to Falls Creek where there it a big deal.. I think sometimes it can be like a way or just make a big deal but i also think if you use it in the right way you can see you has came to the altar and keep accountable your fellow people who have just given there life to Christ you know? well thats what i think :)

Assignment 8

Glee: Grilled Cheesus

Glee was FUN! i kinda like it now :) haha although the view of the writers and the way they portray it is kinda strange.. Well one guy is gay right and his dad is in the hospital and this other guy made a grilled cheese that had the face of Jesus in it haha.. the gay guy is going through rough times and people want to pray for him.. he is an atheist so he asks them not to..the football guy made the grilled cheese and he prays to it and asks for three things.. which in fact by the end of the episode all thre of his things come true.. crazy huh? well then the football guy goes to a counsoler and the counsoler tells him that there is not a God and stuff so he stops believing and then the gay guys dad in the end wakes up after the gay guy goes to church.... the view of the writers is something strange because they say that praying works but in the same way they are making fun of it.. you know? and then by the end it shows them actually singing a Christian song and they did it by their own will.. the accurate parts are that Christianity is important and you do need to pray but also the inaccurate parts are they think that when you pray you will get everything which is not true.. God will do what is best for HIS will and not for your own gain..

Assignment # 8

Sermon on the Mount

Matthew 5:43-48

In this section of the sermon on the mount Jesus is talking about loving your enemies, He wants us to love our neighbor as our self.  He talks about how you would want to be treated and how this is the most important rule that he gives us.  Everyone in life has the people that they clash with but what is right and what God wants us to do is to Love them more than anything!

This is a terribly hard thing to do but it is what is right!
