Assignment #5

Andy Braner

Day 1:
What makes the sky blue?
How do we know that there is a God?
How do we know we are alive?

Andy really questioned you and made you think, all these questions are questions that come up on a regular basis..  The sky looks blue but how we know it really is? It may just look blue.. We know that there is "a God".. he is abstract we cant see him but we have to have faith that he is there.. and are we just a butterfly in South Africa flying around and this is all a dream?  I don't think that at all.. this is real life and there are the people that ask the questions "why" and there are the people who ask the questions "how" and we are all made different but we are all trying to answer these questions but it may just confuse us

Day 2:
Believe?
What do you believe?
What are other things you can believe?

Who is God?

*Romans 10:9  "That is if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe n your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."*

There are two types of truth:
Objective:  we know something is true, he knows something is not true
Subjective:  power to decide what is true

Stephen Hawking**
He is not a Christian but he knows exactly what he believes.. how? its so crazy but he is extremely strong in what he believes

*Genesis 1:1*
*Colossians 1:19-20*

What is your belief?

Day 2(in class):
is it wrong to want proof?
no, its not
Matthew is a tax collector(thief)
Paul wrote 3/4 of the NT, his name was later changed to Saul(murder)
Peter(fishermen, liar)

history:  civilizations, empires, oppressors, battles
archeology:  Hittites scholars for colleges
geographical:  Jerusalem, Tigris-Euphrates River

Does the Bible contradict?
Matthew 27:5
Acts 1:18
The Bible never actually contradicts in these passages it says different things.. but its just maybe because of the different perspectives of the different people

Day 3:
Behave?
-How do you behave?
**Ideas have consequences**
Romans 12:2
John 6:51
John 6:53-58

*Whatever you digest, is what you become*

1) You are what you eat
2) Junk food changes you physical shape, just like your thoughts change your behavior
3) Junk food causes heart problems and confuses your bodies natural functions; just like unhealthy things hurt your body.
Colossians 2:8
4) Junk food tastes great in the short term, but in the long term leads to adverse side effects
5) An apple a day...
"keeps the doctor away"
Psalm 4:10-11

This is so true.. what keeps you healthy is the good stuff if you eat poorly than you will be in bad health.. When you give your body good food it makes you more healthy and feel better

Day 4:
skydiving?? yes please :)

Good spiritual food? Bad spiritual food?

Music is a big part of my life.. and we Andy played those songs and showed us the videos i felt bad because i knew almost every word to those songs and that is an awful thing to say but its true.. it made me think about what is actually going into my brain

Day 5:
belong??

what does it mean to belong to the world?
how do you belong to your friends?

Greatest Commandment:  Love the Lord your God with all your hear soul and mind

What does it mean to Love your neighbor as yourself?

Jonah and the Whale
Do they deserve what they are going to get?
How will you change an orphans world?

"...look down our long nose of judgement.."

*BELIEVE*
*BELONG*
*BEHAVE*

Andy was a wonderful speaker, he was wonderful to listen to.  He really challenged my mind to think.. which is something that is easy to do but it also very good for me.. but i believe that he answered some of my questions that i had and he definitely spoke to me.. I actually enjoyed Spiritual Emphasis Week this year and hope that next year will be similar to this one :)
